Make Way, We're Going International !

International films have arrived, world cinema has always been around from different ranging of cities, nations and cultures. But access to the right resources and network has not always been the easiest for these countries to stumble upon.

I have always liked watching films from different countries, as the style and insight is different to the UK's

World Cinema can be described as 'Cinema/films that are not from the western world' such as Africa or Latin America.

I am writing this blog as I am proud as a nation to see how far we have developed in the creation of different film genres.

World cinema has become a distribution and marketing strategy, as often these countries can create their own genre.

Example of Popular national cinema genres would be :

Bollywood : This genre linking to Asia's culture

Nollywood - Linking to Nigeria, it is a low budget independent media industry.

Films in the subtexts may not all be known by western nations, but within their own countries they can be shown as very popular.

Moving on to why I create this post, as some may or may not know I am from Ghana and whilst being in the UK, I do my best to stay up to date with what is going on within their film industry.

They have recently created 'The Northern King (2017)' , new and upcoming M. SAYIBU, directed this new release which their premier went of with no hitches within Accra, Ghana. With many coming from around Ghana's film industry to watch this film.

The film is about battle lines that have been drawn when two childhood friends are pitted against each other in the battle of a life time as Amin, a former United States Airman returns to his home country to discover his best friend has become a drug king. After being put in charge of the case, Amin vows to bring down Mannahn. But it took great sacrifice to become the King. And the King will not go down without a fight.

This is creating a real buzz around Ghana, with blogs beginning to talk on it, and talks of it being bought to different countries nationwide. It will be going ahead to the Los Angeles Film festival 'Caribbean Lens' in June of this year.

Another Film that catched my eye is one I stumbled across on Netflix, which has a deep story-line leaving you thinking. It is a french film called 'Divines'

The film is based on a housing estate on the outskirts of Paris, about a teenager who is hungry for her share of power and success she becomes a runner for a drug dealer. When she meets a male dancer, giving her a window of opportunity to offer a different kind of life

The Divines was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for 'best Motion Picture- Foreign Language' and has only more awards to come.

Congratulations to both films success, world cinema is a growing industry. As their quality rises. So does their popularity with the western world.
